Mold Certification?

11/1/2021 (Permalink)

Should I look At The Certifications Of A Mold Remediation Company?

When facing the prospect of hiring mold remediation specialists to mitigate mold damage to your Fort Payne home, you may see many companies advertising specialized mold certifications. But what makes a company certified for mold removal, and is there any value in hiring a company that has been certified for mold remediation?

So Who Certifies Mold Remediation Companies?

Mold remediation companies and certified mold specialists are accredited by IICRC, or the institute of Inspection Cleaning and Remediation Certification. This organization acts as the standards body that defines proper procedure and accountability for cleaning, remediation, and restoration for various services.

  • Attaining in-depth expertise on mold identification
  • Certifying in safe methods for mold remediation and elimination
  • Gaining insight into safe technician handling of microbial substances
  • Understanding water damage restoration
  • Qualifying in both technician and consumer safety management

Attaining these certifications requires a great deal of training and coursework for both companies and individual technicians, as well as assessment of cleaning, remediation, and restoration protocols.

Why Does Certification Matter?

Certification means accountability and protections for you as a consumer. Certified mold remediation companies and mold remediation technicians are held to a particular standard required to maintain their certification and remain in good standing with the IICRC. This means that you as a consumer are protected by an established standard for professional, ethical mold remediation and damage treatment.

Protect Yourself

While it’s possible to hire mold remediation specialists without certification, keep in mind that certification means protections you may not find with non-certified technicians and companies. Handling mold detection, remediation, and prevention is a highly complex endeavor requiring extensive knowledge of safety procedures and proper interactions with fungal agents and microbial spores. While certified mold remediation companies may charge more, often you are paying for the assurance of a job done right. Therefore it is always wise to check the status of a remediation company’s mold certification.

Why should you hire SERVPRO to sanitize your home or business?

12/4/2020 (Permalink)

Office with a filter over it and the Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned sticker above it.

When the pandemic hit many were lost at what to do, and how to clean their homes, vehicles, and businesses. Lysol and other sanitizing chemicals were flying off the shelves. Many were without due to hoarders. SERVPRO was there to help by sanitizing everything from schools to government buildings to even vehicles. During the Summer and Fall the numbers seemed to lower a bit or at least cap at a certain spot. But since the winter weather and seasonal colds, and flu the rates have increased more than before.

This time around people has been taking matters into their own hands by purchasing foggers and more cleaning materials to do the cleaning themselves. With the numbers continuing to rise we can see that’s not the best choice but why is it not? Well, SERVPRO’s cleaning is actually called Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned and it’s a defensive cleaning program that goes beyond janitorial or carpet cleaning, it’s a higher standard of cleaning. This is proactive viral pathogen cleaning that helps ensure the cleanliness of the restaurants, businesses, and public spaces in the communities we all call home.

All in all, what we’re saying is we’re using stronger hospital-grade cleansing solutions that the general public does NOT have access to. Another reason you would want us to do the sanitizing is because of our trained staff and equipment. We’ve seen the foggers online for sale to the general public but we’re not limited to foggers. We also have electrostatic machines that work more efficiently than foggers. In addition to those reasons, why would you want to risk your life cleaning something that you may not even be cleaning correctly?

Give us a call! From Mentone to Bridgeport, Collinsville to Woodville, Ider to Geraldine, or Fort Payne to Scottsboro, we are proud to operate in your neighborhood. We proudly boast "Best in County" for the years 2017 and 2018!

Meet Nick our NEW reconstruction manager

11/23/2020 (Permalink)

A headshot of a male in a jean shirt in front of a SERVPRO van

Our goal is to exceed your expectations, especially since time is of the essence when using our services. With that being said, we recently hired a new willing and capable reconstruction manager!

Nick started working as an independent adjuster years back in South Florida, where he handled daily claims in the South Florida area for multiple insurance carriers. After about 2 years in the insurance industry, he moved into the restoration side of things to get a better handle on that aspect of the business; it was a little more hands-on which he enjoyed. He worked his way up to Senior estimator within 6 months, and after about a year and a half he decided to venture back into the insurance side of things again. This time he worked as a staff adjuster on the Catastrophe team for a third-party company, again handling claims for multiple carriers. He handled commercial and residential large losses and small losses. He recently moved to the Chattanooga area from Fort Lauderdale, FL and he's very happy and grateful to be a part of the SERVPRO team in Scottsboro and surrounding areas and cant wait to get started! Give us a call at 256-259-4333 for a quote!

Why do we have a reconstruction team?

11/16/2020 (Permalink)

a reconstruction team that includes 3 males and one female in yellow vests looking at plans for a building. SERVPRO logo is over the photo.

Great question! Many of our clients suffer water damage and or fire damage to their homes. Our highly trained restoration technicians are prepared to respond immediately to flood or water damage at your Scottsboro property. After our technicians finish professionally cleaning your home or business, there is sometimes more work to be done. Think of it like this, If a tornado sweeps through your neighborhood and damages part of your roof. You may have water damage due to the rain and the hole in your roof from the storm. So we would come and professionally clean your home, and belongings, but you would still have a hole in your roof. That’s why we have a reconstruction team. Our reconstruction team can repair your roof, replace the flooring, repaint affected areas, and more!

So keep us in mind! SERVPRO's large-loss response is uniquely qualified to handle any disaster. We are prequalified, experienced, and strategically located across The United States to respond to any loss. When an event comes to devastate a community, SERVPRO's goal is to be instrumental in restoring the community the best we can. SERVPRO of Jackson and Dekalb Counties is here to help!

Why would you need us to encapsulate your crawlspace?

11/11/2020 (Permalink)

a cleaned and encapsulated crawlspace that has a visible sunk pump with a few wires hanging from the ceiling

If you’re wondering what crawlspace encapsulation is and why you need us we’re here to inform you. Many basements or man caves have a funky mildew smell no matter how much they clean. They have no real evidence of mold just a funky smell that they can’t seem to find to get rid of. That’s when you give us a call. When we perform a crawlspace encapsulation we’re adding a heavy-duty polyethylene barrier to cover the crawl space including floors, foundation walls, and possibly even its ceiling. Sealing tape connects the barrier’s pieces throughout the space, and once the space is sealed, a dehumidifier helps regulate your crawl space’s moisture level.

Crawl space encapsulation promotes clean air circulation throughout your home, making it healthier to breathe for your friends and family. That rids you of unwanted moisture issues from under your Scottsboro home. As a trusted leader in the restoration industry, SERVPRO has over 1,700 Franchises in the U.S. and Canada that are ready to help. SERVPRO of Jackson & Dekalb Counties professionals have the advanced training and equipment needed to clean or restore your home. Don’t hesitate to give us a call for your quote today! 256-259-4333

SERVPRO employee with dark brown hair in a black jacket standing outside his SERVPRO office.

Hi, I'm Drew Shields, a Ringgold, Georgia native. Growing up in Ringgold, and then metro Atlanta, I can say I love the city, but I have a country heart. As a child, I attended church at Ringgold Church of God and East Ridge Church of God. Both of these churches, my faith, and my Christian upbringing greatly impacted my moral compass and the direction in life I chose. I’ve always been in some sort of sales or marketing role throughout my professional career, but it was at SERVPRO I realized I could pair my skill of communication with aiding those who need solutions to their issues, and fast.

I enjoy being the individual to let our customers know that they’re in good hands when they choose SERVPRO for their needs. Being someone who can speak directly with the customer and directly with the production staff that will do the job is crucial. SERVPRO allows me that freedom, which in turn allows me to communicate accurate information to both parties and get the customer back together “Like it never even happened.”

Understanding Mold

Some restoration companies advertise “mold removal” and may even guarantee to remove all mold. This is a fallacy because removing all mold from a house or business is impossible; microscopic mold spores exist almost everywhere, both indoors and outdoors. Here are the facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.
  • We have professionals trained to handle your mold situations. Give us a call today!

Why should you trust SERVPRO with your belongings?

We will not only handle the cleaning of the area that was damaged but we also will take care of your belongings that also were affected.

  5. We’re local! Being local is a benefit because your things are kept close to you while they’re restored.

Mold is Approaching

Mold can be found both indoors and outdoors in places with high levels of moisture, such as leaks around pipes, windows, or roofs. If flooding has occurred and saturated your home, mold will also grow in drywall, dust, upholstery, and carpet, just to name a few. This is why it is of utmost importance to reach out to SERVPRO of Jackson and Dekalb Counties immediately if any water damage has occurred - our specially trained professionals will ensure your home and belongings are properly cleaned and dried to inhibit mold growth.

Acting on Mold Growth

Mold can be many different colors, smell musty, and will often look like spots. Regardless of what type of mold it is, it needs to be removed. If you see visible mold, do not disturb it by attempting to clean the area yourself, touching the mold, or blowing air across affected areas. You can inadvertently spread the mold infestation throughout your home. When mold is disturbed, the mold can release microscopic mold spores which become airborne and can circulate inside your home. If you suspect mold, keep loved ones out of the area, turn off fans and the HVAC system, and contact your friends at SERVPRO of Jackson and Dekalb today!

Advanced Technology

Advanced Technology and Techniques

The past few decades has seen a rapid advancement in the technology and techniques used in the restoration industry. These advancements allow SERVPRO of Jackson and Dekalb Counties Professionals to restore a property back to preloss condition quickly, reliably, and more effectively.

The Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) sets practical standards for restoration and cleaning. The IICRC S500 Water Damage Guide is a specific set of practical standards that incorporate the field of psychometry, which involves the manipulation of temperature and relative humidity to remove moisture and dry a property quickly and effectively.

Moisture Detection and Measurement Equipment

Scientific drying principles rely upon specialized equipment to detect, measure, and monitor a property’s moisture levels. Recent advances, like infrared cameras, can help us detect water through a wall, ceiling, or floor.

  • An infrared camera may be used to identify water location for thorough water removal.
  • Sensitive moisture detectors, hygrometers, and other meters measure the extent of moisture saturation.

Water Extraction Equipment

Powerful extraction equipment speeds the drying process by removing the bulk of the water from your home or business.

  • Submersible and gas-powered pumps for continuous pumping of high-level water.
  • Truck-mounted and portable extraction units perform efficient water removal.

Drying Equipment

Industrial strength air movers and dehumidifiers are needed to remove the remaining moisture from ceiling, walls, and floors of your home or business. Proper drying helps to prevent swelling and warping of floors, walls, and furniture.

  • High-speed air movers causes moisture to evaporate at a faster pace.
  • Industrial grade dehumidifiers pull the water vapor from the air.

Odor Removal and Deodorization

Water and fire damage often causes powerful odors. The machines we use remove airborne contaminants and control the air quality during the restoration and cleanup process.

  • Air scrubbers remove airborne particles and contaminants.
  • Thermal foggers and deodorization agents control odors.
