7/12/2019 (Permalink)

When disaster affects a business, the owner of that business may end up assessing some devastating losses. Floods especially have been known to give business owners major headaches. Fortunately, there are ways to prepare you business for possible flooding by taking these steps:

  • Invest in flood insurance. Flood damage is not always covered by basic commercial property insurance. Flood insurance can save a business from having to pay substantial amounts of money to repair damages, especially if the business is in a flood susceptible area.
  • Have a continuity plan. Prepare for the possibility that you may not have access to your building for a substantial amount of time. Be sure to have a back-up plan on how to continue business and a back-up for critical equipment and materials.
  • Use flood barriers. When a food is predicted, prepare with flood barriers. Do everything you can to minimize the amount of water that could possibly enter your facility.
