Emergency Fire Damage Tips

8/9/2019 (Permalink)

After experiencing a damaging fire, you will need to go through home or business to assess the damage and inventory salvageable items. To keep you safe and minimize further damages, follow these emergency fire damage tips:

  • Keep your hands clean.
  • Limit movement in the home to prevent further damage.
  • Place dry, colorfast towels or old linens on carpeted traffic areas to prevent further soiling.
  • If the electricity is off, empty your freezer and refrigerator and keep their doors open.
  • Wipe soot from chrome on faucets and appliances, then protect it with a light coating of lubricant.

Do not attempt to wash any walls, painted surfaces, carpet or upholstered furniture without first contacting a team member from SERVPRO of Jackson and DeKalb Counties at 256-845-4402. Our team specializes in making fire damage “Like it never even happened.” Additionally, do not attempt to clean any electrical appliances that may have been close to fire or water without consulting a repair service.
